Whitewater Rafting on the Snake River with Women Traveling Together

Have you heard of 'Glamping'? It is truly an outdoor girl's dream!  Ok, maybe not all outdoor girls, but definitely a dream trip for me.
Two years ago, I had the opportunity to go to the Snake River in Idaho for an exciting, rafting adventure on this phenomenal river. Where the Snake River heads north and forms the border between Idaho and Oregon, is Hell's Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America.  Boulders and rock slides have rolled into the river to create the biggest rapids in the Pacific North west. Between rapids, we had spectacular scenery that we enjoyed from the river, and we also went ashore to experience challenging hikes where we encountered Rocky Mountain Big Horn sheep and mountain goats. The river was wild at some points, with class IV rapids like Wild Sheep and Granite Creek. At other times, we kicked back, watched the sky, and floated down the river without a care in the world. And we were totally unplugged!  No cell phone coverage in this remote area of The United States.
It was a camping trip, but not any kind of camping that I had ever done before. It's called Glamping. When we arrived at our first camp site along the river, a team of guides had already set up our tents, and our bags were resting just outside the door flap.  Within an hour, we had gourmet hors d'oeuvres with spirits set out on tables along the river bank for our consumption. We ate, we laughed, we told stories, and got to know our fellow adventurers.  It was a great way to wind down at the end of an exhilarating day on the river. But this was just the beginning! Dinner was being prepared by our expert guides who, it turns out, were also excellent chefs! The feasts they prepared were truly remarkable! Smoked salmon, rib eye steaks, roasted vegetables, Cornish hens, and the list goes on and on! Dessert was always on the menu!  The evenings melted into the night sky until one by one, we made our way back into our cozy tents. Every day was a day well spent.
At some point, we all bathed in the river, experienced the proverbial 'pot of gold' (with a great view), and watched the zillions of stars late in to the night. We laughed till our sides hurt, sighed, hiked, kayaked, ate too much, drank a bit, swam, fished, and then laughed some more.  We had a lot of good, old-fashioned fun on that trip. Nobody was uptight as we had nowhere to go and nowhere to be. Just out in the wilds, living on the river.
Give it a go! You won't regret it. Not one minute!
